Fleetguard Fuel Filters & Biodiesel info

I came across this article from Fleetguard on issues that were experienced with increased biodiesel use and the fuel filters needing to be changed out prematurely. The information is helpful that the biodiesel itself out of the pump isn't an issue but that carboxylates accumulate after going through the fuel system and effect the fuel filter. I'd called Fleetguard to inquire about if an upgraded filter was needed and tech support said my filter FS1022 already had the product update. I and I assume most of the people here don't drive enough for it to matter but thought it was worth sharing.

Zeb,
Dave Atherton (CAT mechanic) recommends using only CAT for secondary filter. See

for more info or do a search for "fuel filter"

I've heard good things about the cat fuel filter but I didn't find a cross reference for the Cummins filter.

Zeb,
Sorry, I missed that you were running a Cummins. Since Fleetgard is owned by Cummins, you should be OK.

It does seems the Cat fuel filters filter down to 2 microns instead of 10 for the Fleetguard but that could be a difference in absolute or effective filtration.
