Barker electric waste valves
« on: May 11, 2025, 04:24:45 PM »
I have the original Barker Auto Drain waste valves from 1999.  The electrical function of the valves works perfectly, but the black valve leaks.  I would like to change out both valves while I'm in there.  My question is: Do I need to replace the entire system including the electric openers, or can I replace the valve part with a new valve (Valterra or whatever) and keep the existing electric opener.  Will a new off the shelf valve work with the auto opener?  I really need to have the correct parts in hand before I dive into this so I can repair it all at once.

I believe that the baker control units will fit on and work with the Valtera valves .
If your valve electric operator is working all you can replace the valve itself.
If the valves are leaking you may get away will just replacing the valve mounting flange gaskets as they also are the valve gate seals how ever it requires removing the valve either way and the flange seal gaskets are harder to find so it's probably more effective to replace the valve.
Make sure to buy the valve with the bolt kit as the old bolts are often rusted and hard to work with.

Thank you Eric,

I wasn't sure if the old ones will work with most valves like the new ones, so that's good news. I think the gray water is a 1.5" valve and the black is a 3".  Does that sound right?  Your help is appreciated.

That sounds right the gray is usually 1 1/2 and the black is 3"
You can a easily find both at any good RV parts shop or online at Amazon remember to get the kits with the flange bolts as the bolts tend to get rusty and can break getting it apart.
also make sure to get the valves with the handle threaded on as some are just a molded on handle and you will need the threads for your application.
This video should help you familiarize your self with the system.

I'm glad you mentioned the metal valve handles.  I probably would have ended up with the plastic ones, which, as you said will not work.  Thanks again.
