Not Level
« on: May 11, 2025, 05:21:22 PM »
Our trip is not starting out well. First the blown coolant line in northern California (now fixed, see previous post.) Now we have a leveling issue, fortunately this is a problem, but not trip stopper. A night ago we heard a very short high air pressure hiss - presumably a line or connection blew or released. I have not been able to locate it. However we can't stay level on either our air or hydraulic system. There does not to be any issue while driving. We can initially get level on the air system, but we are quickly listing to the right with the compressor running regularly for 3-4 minutes at a time (but having no effect on our list.) Using the hydraulic jacks also doesn't work. We are initially level, but fairly quickly start to list. What I've identified is that when the jacks are down, the passenger side and driver's front air bags are dumped, but the rear driver's air bags are holding air and causing us to tilt. I tried manually dumping the rear bags and got back close to level, but the bags appeared to re-fill and put us back right where we started. The air bags should be good, they are only a year old. Any suggestions? We will be in Bend tomorrow and I was thinking of seeing if Beaver Coach Sales could take a look at it. Or would we be better to divert to Henderson's Line-up?

Beaver coach sales should be able to identify and repair your problem if they can get you in.

I would guess by your description that your fault is likely a leaking "O " ring in the rear six pack valve or an air line connected between  it and the air bags for that side for your air leveling.
You should be able to hear an air leak nearby the drive axle after the coach is leveled and shut down .

Thanks Eric for the suggestions. Unfortunately the slope of the pad that we're on required the rear bags to be totally deflated when leveled out. We'll try and find an area on our way north to attempt to find the leak. Thanks again.

Bill,
It's also possible that your Valid controller (under control pad) has failed since the issue occurs with both air and hydraulics. Ours failed on our 07 Contessa in 2023 for no apparent reason. You can call them and they will walk you through a diagnosis procedure. Valid got ~$550 at that time. :(

Thanks everyone. So I've done a test the last couple nights. I leveled using the air system and them immediately turned off the chassis power - we've stayed level. I don't understand the intricacies of the leveling system and have no clue what this is telling me, but would like to sort it out. We have an appointment at Beaver Coach here in Bend tomorrow, but its less critical now since we have a short-term work-around.
