HWH 600 Series for '97 Marquis - Keeps failing
« on: May 29, 2025, 02:27:35 AM »
Yet another HWH issue post, so I apologize in advance.

SO when we picked the coach up we tested the leveling system and all seemed well. The auto level for the jacks seemed to work, hit the HYD button twice and it will dump the air, click the solenoids for the pump and then go into its various level system dances. A month or so into owning the coach I tried to level it with the auto system and it would put the jacks down, but it never seemed to actually apply any pressure, it was like they were just touching and then stopping, but the pump would just run indefinitely until you hit the off button on the panel. Now it seems to not want to do anything at all, you can select the buttons to level but it will only dump the air, then do nothing else. The air side is about the same, you can hit air and lower manually, but there is not level lights showing anymore. I went thru with a power probe and you can activate all of the solenoids and the air valve by hitting each fuse, I can make the air pump run, the hydraulic pump run, I can operate all the corners, but only from the fuses / wires. This leads me to believe the control boards are not happy.

I found a set of receipts from the previous owner where they sent the boards to HWH back in June of 2021 and HWH replaced some components and added a ton of "jumper" wires. I took the boards out and cleaned them and saw the tiny 18-22ga wires they added. The boards are very corroded and I'm sure more traces or components are needing help at this point. but before I go calling them and waiting months to get the boards back, I didn't know if there are any other things I can double check. As mentioned the fuses and relays an solenoids all seem to be in order since I can manually engage the different air/hyd valves and motors.

I should add that on trend for my coach, the previous owner made some "modifications to the wires going to the control box. its a complete mess honestly, but I was able to trace most of them and it was working so I just kinda ignore it the best I can. One thing that had been done was where the two grey wires are for the "Front and Rear Travel" he had cut them and added in some spade connectors , then spliced in the yellow ignition wire from the power harness. Im not sure the purpose of this, I haven't been able to find anything online talking about a by-pass or anything there. I also noticed that the front air harness and the rear were flipped for some reason, I corrected all of the wires to be like the factory diagrams.

I would love to just buy something new to replace the old boards with but a new set of HWH 600s seem to be around $2000+ and I cant find anything plug and play in the aftermarket. The nerdy side of me has been working on an Arduino with an eight output DC-SSR to just build my own system. I have most of it designed already, but if there was an easy way to keep the factory system I would be up for it. Chat GPT wrote most of the code for it so I don't have a lot of time wrapped up in in yet, maybe like $200 of parts so far. I was inspired when I saw some guys with other coaches building manual joystick controls for their systems., kinda like old school low-riders.

Oh and I would love to be pointed to a reference on how to interface with the HWH Diagnostic port that is near the level sensor, looks like there are 4 wires in it.
