Removal of Sharp Microwave R-1820
« on: October 13, 2011, 06:03:43 AM »
Hi again.  I need to remove my Sharp Carousel R-1820 microwave from my 1990 Beaver Contessa.  I have the manual but it doesn't describe that procedure and am coming up empty online.  Has anyone taken one out and if so can you give a guy some help with instructions?  i know it has two sliding lever looking things in the back underneath that can be slid down.  i assume that is some type of mounting bracket release on the wall behind it.  Trouble is, prying them down doesnt do anything.  Also...looks like a small strip of wood trim vertically under microwave on wall to left is in the way of taking it out.  Don't see any screws to remove it.  Hate to pry it off, but...??  No access behind wall as it abuts the fridge.

Help??  Thanks in advance.

Brian...We have the same microwave as you do.  I have taken ours out a couple of times and if I remember correctly the following is how it's done.
There is a single screw in the middle of the top vent grill.  Remove the grill and it will expose a couple of bolts that goes through the upper cabinet with a nut on each bolt.  The upper cabinets need to be emptied out and the piece of carpet removed.  Undo the bolts and be careful as it's heavy.  Once the bolts are out grab the front of the microwave, drop it down a little and lift it off the back tab that holds the back of the microwave in place.  There also may be a couple of set screws on the back tab to secure the microwave in place.  Of course, be sure to unplug the power cable first.  It is not a difficult job, but another hand or two would be helpful.
Hope this helps you.
Mandy :)
