Coach Air Line Connector
« on: October 30, 2011, 08:08:44 PM »
I have found that I can't get my standard male air fitting to attach to the one supplied with the coach.

Does anyone know which style Beaver used or should I just change the female connector in the equipment bay?

thanks

Dick

I had to change mine too.  All my air tools, hoses, etc have a standard fitting, now the Beaver does too.

Dick,
My 2000 Marquis came with Milton "M" style couplers for the auxiliary air supply fittings.

My 07 Contessa came with the same style fitting (of the three most popular ones) that I've been using for almost 40 years now. All my hoses, tools and fittings fit perfectly. I suppose it's luck of the draw whether the ones you've always used were the same or not.

It must have been random since my 2000 Thunder has the same quick connect I was using for everything else.  However, the connector itself is stiff and I've had to work to get it to connect without leaking and to seal properly when nothing is connected.  I may remove it just to put a new one in.

I had the same quandary, so I bought a 50ft air hose and put the correct male connector on one end  The female at the other end can be whatever style is common to the tools you'll use with the coach.  I found Home Depot and Sears have kits with a selection of different style connectors and fittings, as well as a selection of hose grades and lengths;  fittings and hose easily store in my small "tool bay" next to the battery bay where my air outlet and bleed valves are.

The male nipples are of different lengths beyond the grip flange, and if too long won't allow the flange to engage the female connector.  The flanges are of different shapes as well, and may not grip for a good seal even if the nipple is short enough.

I remember it was aggravating to find there were several connector types out there, they don't all have identifying characters on them, and I went through all of them before the correct one worked.  It sure would be nice if original mfrs. had standardized connectors.

Went out to the coach and dug out my hose and fittings.  The 1/4" IM ones don't fit the stock outlet on the Beaver, but the 1/4" NPT ones do.  However there may be minor differences that are causing some of my NPT ones to leak a bit.  The one I bought for the hose works fine though, and it's a 1/4" NPT Milton Mil T s784-2 from Carquest (2pack).  I took the stock black male IM fitting off the new hose and replaced it with one of the Carquest ones.  The gray hose from Home Depot has a black female connector on the other end with a core that is spring loaded such that it seems to grasp both IM and NPT fittings regardless of nipple length.

Just an update on this topic.

I finally found the correct connector (apparently called plugs) at the local parts house.  For referance, on mine at least, it's a Type B ARO style.  Made by Xtra Seal and the P/N is 15-7521,

I picked up a 1/2" brass ball valve and put the proper "plug" on each side so now I have an adapter to my air hose plus a shut off valve.

Works very well but the on board tanks must be pretty good size as my compressor ran awhile to get the coach to 110 psi.
