2005 Monterey Issues
« on: February 03, 2012, 12:02:16 AM »
I have a 2005 Monterey with the Xantrex networked system.  The has an automatic generator start and one of the options is to start upon a thermostat signal.  Beaver (Monaco) did not bother to wire the thermostats to the AGS.  I am concerned about our puppy in the heat and we leave him in the coach with AC and the campground loses electricity.  I cannot add wires from the existing stats without significant problems.  Anyone with this issue?

Also my dash air is not working.  The fan blows but only warm air.  The compressor is not engaging.  The compressor is not frozen.  Anyone else had this problem.  Sure hope it is an easy fix.

An update on my friend's Norcold 1200 LRM.  We have to remove it to check the cooling fans and their thermostat and there are still AC problems.  We are going to replace it with a Samsung and wire it so it will work on the inverter.  I have spent 3 full days diagnosing this thing.

Most of the dash air systems have a low pressure switch in the line that will not allow the compressor to kick on if there is not enough R134 in the system. That is a likely scenario and can be checked by checking the system pressure, At an ambient of 70 degrees with everything off in a static mode you would expect to see about 70psi on both the low and high side ports. If you have a sufficient leak to lose R134 pressure in less than a year you should get the system repaired. Adding R134 once a year may be more cost effective if the leak is that small.

You could have a fuse out, a bad pressure sensor, or a wiring issue as the problem source but leaks are the more likely culprit here.

Hey Dennis, I've got the same coach and the same issues. I'm probably going to go with the CumminsOnan wireless autostart system that they have out now. Looks like it will address all the concerns and at not too bad a price point. Looks to me that it handles everything the AGS does but is wireless, designed for your generator, and handles the temperature issue.

On my dash air I ended up having to replace the condensor mounted in tandem with the radiator. Got tired of having to fill the system every time I wanted to take an extended trip. I don't know if that is a common problem on our unit but might give you an idea on where to start looking for the leak, assuming there is one anyway.

Ain't it fun?

Bob,

It sure is fun.  I have been working on either my Beaver or my neighbor's Country Coach all week.  He sheared off a bolt on his passenger side slide.  I have that fixed.  I will soon have the Norcold 1200LRM fixed in his coach.  We are going to remove it and replace with a Samsung residential unit.

Thanks for the info.  There is also an accumulator that has a swith that might be the problem on my dash air as well.

I have looked at the Magnum AGS unit as well.  Around $300 I think.  I will look at the Onan as well.
