Direct tv

We just had Direct tv put in our stick house and would like to use those recievers in the MH. We have a sat. ant that is Direct tv capable. These recievers are model # H25-100. They are the new small ( 8 5/8 by 5 3/4 ) HD rec. I have tried them in the MH and they don't work there. The sat. ant is only SD, not HD capable. The installer said these rec. have different wiring ( "one wire" he said ). It has been suggested to get SD rec. D 12 I think  was the model #. Any thoughts on how to make this work? The sat. ant. is a Winegard Traveller 3 lnb.

The H25 receiver is designed to work with the Single Wire Multiswitch (SWM) approach being used by DirecTV in most new residential installations these days.  To my knowledge you cannot use it with your old dish unless you add a power injector and a multiswitch.  The hardware needed is in the $150 range.  Alternatively, you can buy a new dish (you don't say if yours is roof-mounted) or you can obtain an inexpensive additional receiver for the RV.

Bill,

I presume you ordered the new SD receiver from DirecTV.  If you don't mind, when you call to activate it as an RV receiver on your stick house account, would you post what they say about that?

Thanks.

I have direct TV in our Beaver off of our house account.  We pay $10 a month and can shut those two receivers off when it is in storage.  One of the issues with Direct is that if you have an in-motion sat reciever on the coach you cannot recieve HD.  It only works with the fixed postion receiver.  They will tell you it does but I have two hd units and they both will only recieve 780 and not 1080.

Jerry

Can you elaborate a little more about your Direct TV off your "house account" and the ability to "shut off two receivers" when in storage.  I also have DTV and am billed for all my receivers on one account.  I have tried to suspend charges on the two receivers in my Beaver, but Direct said I could NOT do that.  ( A bunch of BS in my opinion).  How did you manage that?

I ordered the SD reciever from Direct TV. I had questions about recieving a signal in the MH and house at same time. They said no problem. They also said I could put the stick house HD on vacation when we head south in winter. We'll see!

I was told that we could do this.  We use to have a separate direct tv acct for our previous motor home because we had cable at our stick house.  I could shut the service off under that acct any time I wanted to as long as it did not exceed 6 months in any one year.  Since we have moved and now have direct at the house also we combined the two accts and I was told that I could shut my RV receivers off or suspend is the term they use by calling them however it must be for a month at a time.  I think it just depends who you talk to.  The individual I worked with was by far the best I have ever talked to at Direct.  He set up the acct so we will see when this winter comes and I want to shut it off for a couple of months.

Thanks Jerry, I guess I need to be MORE persistent and/or ask for a supervisor.

Some years back we were able to add our RV receiver for the additional receiver in home rate of $4.95 per month.

We also have the Direct TV app on our smart phone that allows us to reactivate the receiver if the code is changed from the satellite.

Although this isn't germane to the rest of this thread, I thought it was worth noting that the issue with receiving HD has nothing to do with these being in-motion dishes, but rather that HD on DirecTV is broadcast at a different frequency than the SD signals and from different satellites.  HD cannot be received with any dome-type dish system, you must use a fixed dish with multiple types of LNB's.

And, BTW, the resolution of the SD signal is 480i not 780.  The available HD resolutions are 720p, 1080i and 1080p.

We have a Winegard Trav'ler HD with DirecTV on the coach. DirecTV allows us to suspend service once a year, for a minimum of 90 days. We don't have DirecTV in the stick house. To suspend service we call their customer service, and ask for the motorhome assistance. When you suspend, they ask you when you want to go back on, and then they send a reminder about 45 days in advance asking it you still want service restored on that date.

Got the reciever installed and working this morning. The person At Direct TV was very helpful getting it actuated. We now have reception in both the house and MH. Thats the good news. The other news is, yes you can suspend service on your account, but ALL revcievers on that account are  suspended. Also, they do not charge a fee for one reciever, but all other recievers are charged a fee of $6.00 per month each.

Bill,

Thanks for the update.  It appears something has changed.  A couple of years ago, DirecTV pitched a fit when I said I was using my account in both the house and an motorhome.  For awhile it was written into the "Terms of Service" that two separate accounts were necessary for that practice.  I ignored them and pretended the motorhome was an extra bedroom and stopped using "motorhome" in any conversations with them.  (Sometimes I think their staff of reps are not schooled the the differences between "mobile homes", "motorhomes" and "RVs".)

Another time I was in Southern California for a couple of months and wanted to change my "service address" so that I could pick up the networks from San Diego.  They threatened to cancel my account because I was violating a FTC rule.

I've been watching TV so little lately that I may soon end my long time account with DirecTV.  I'm watching the introduction of a new gizmo called a SimpleTV  (https://www.simple.tv/ that will record over the air content.   If it ends up actually working, DirecTV may be kissing my monthly allotments goodbye.

I just got an email from Direct TV about form " Mobile Vehicle Declaration of Intent ". I'd asked about Distant Network Services (DNS) for the broadcast programing. To get DNS, you have to set up a separate account and pay again for the programing in that account. I'm beginning to have second thoughts about switching from Dish to Direct.
