Checking Trans Fluid

We're getting ready to head out to Indio this morning and while checking the fluid levels I was wondering if the tranny is checked with the engine running (like my cars) of off. I know there are two ways to check....using the dipstick and/or the control pad but the manual wasn't clear if the engine should be running, in gear or not. The control pad didn't work as it was cold so I'll double check on the first rest stop.

Dick,
If you are checking the transmission fluid with the dipstick, the engine should be running, and the transmission should be in neutral.
