Cat 330 oil leak repair
« on: March 12, 2013, 02:08:18 AM »
Katie and I had the "Ohio Cat Dealer" service the MH before we stored it for the winter.  They changed the engine, trans and gen oil and antifreeze and all the filters.  I also had them check an oil leak that left a spot behind the curb sid back tires.  It turned out that there is a high pressure hose about 6 to 8 inches long that is metal then rubber and metal again.  The rubber crimps were spliting and failure would have caused the engine to melt down.  The replacement part is now all metal tubing.  This was all metal on the earlier engines and was change to the rubber design.  The metal is now standard again.  I think it would be a good idea to have this part checked and replaced if it is the rubber type.

Had similar problem on my 3126B about 2 years ago. All metal tube solved problem. It's located on the passenger side of the engine and runs vertically. Leak starts as a seep.

Is the hose in question a hose for motor oil of some kind or perhaps the power steering hose in the same area?  The description seems to point to the power steering hose and I have the same problem.

Can someone take a photo of the leaking location and overall hose/pipe in question and post it?

I'll take a pic after I get my coach back from servicing. Tim, if you could take a pic of yours we can confirm we are talking about the same hose.

Subject line is the yellow tube. I seem to remember the original being a woven metal line, probably rubber lined.  This tube came from CAT when the repair shop replaced teh original. Part # I have is 240-0717. Assuming it is the CAT number.

Steve,

The hose you took a picture of is the correct one.  I never ask the part mumber so I can not help with that.
