power seats
« on: April 20, 2013, 03:13:07 AM »
We have 2008 Contessa.  Had captain's seats removed for uphostery.  When returned drivers seat was plugged in and worked.  10 minutes later tried again and didn't work.  Checked power to plug. OK.  Seat side of plug OK. Disassemble seat to check power.  Have power to 6way and out of 6way and to motors.  All have power.  Voltage is 16-20v.  Nothing moves.  Anyone have any ideas.

Mike, I had a ground wire in-line splice come loose and the seat would not work.

When you tested with your voltmeter, did you probe the ground wire on that feed wire to under the seat or did you just grab a chassis ground. If you did the later, then you would have voltage but the seat would not work. Just happened to me after working for 13 years and this seat had never been removed. I guess turning the seat around caused the wire to pull out of the splice.

I checked voltage at connector plug, not to ground.

Mike

I also had a crimp connector come loose.  Check where the power in wires are connected under the seat to the seat wires.

Mike,
When I had my seats reupholstered, I had a similar problem.  We checked the voltage at plug and it all looked good, but one of the wires in the bundle under the seat, covered by the leather had come loose and once that was repaired, everything worked good.  Also one seat  had a bind under the forward/back slide switch  and we had to cut the leather back just a little so a good contact could be made.

Ditto here.  The seat got turned 180 degrees for visiting with a large group, and then wouldn't work electrically.  One of the wires got stretched enough that the connector wouldn't make good contact.  It's still kinda goosey and I should revamp or replace it.  Check your ground continuity to frame.
