Airlock in freshwater lines
« on: October 03, 2013, 03:29:49 PM »
Hello all,  It seems I have messed up while trying to winterize the fresh water system on my 06 Monterey.  I drained the system at all the prescribed locations identified in our coach manual.  I used my air compressor to blow out considerably more water.  I then began adding the  RV anitfreeze to the system using the on board water pump.  All seems to have gone okay, except for one thing.  I am unable to get the antifreeze to flow thru the cold water lines to the bathroom sinks or shower.  The toilet flushes okay, and water flows well thru the hot water side.  At least I seem to have gotten the antifreeze thru the hydro hot properly.  I hear the obvious air lock noise in the wall behind the shower, and nothing from the cold water lines to the bathroom sink.  Any recommendations on how/where to proceed.  OR, should we be safe from freeze up, since waterlines were blown out prior to adding the antifreeze?   We won't be able to leave the Coeur d'Alene area until after Christmas, so I certainly expect freezing temps prior to then, plus I am unable to plug the coach into electrical power for other sources of heat.

Thanks for any assistance

I have done the same process as you without this problem.  I assume you have closed the cold water drain or you would see antifreeze on the ground and you have not closed the cold water feed valves on the manifold to these areas.  You might also check that you are not fillng the water tank, so that the valve to the water tank is closed on the manifold.  Could be that you had dirt in your lines and the air pressure caused dirt to block the screen on your faucet.  But you would not have hot water there if that was the case.

Open, then close low point drain, for 1-2 sec. with pump running and see that breaks airlock!!  Henry

Thanks for the replies.  I know I have definitely tried opening the low point drain, and get anti-freeze coming out there.  I also am sure the water tank fill valve is closed and have checked to ensure there is no anti-freeze going to the main water tank.  I will need to go back to our storage location and check to confirm the position of the cold water valves to the bathroom on the manifold.  That I hope to accomplish in the morning.

Thanks for your assistance.

Bill,
If all else fails use a shop vacuum on open cold water faucet. Some times it works better to pull than push.

Hello All.  Many thanks for your suggestions.  Well, long story short, I messed up and shut off the cold water valves to the bathroom sinks and the shower, while I was using the air compressor to blow out the water system.  I checked the manifold today, and as soon as I looked I could see where I messed up.  A quick turn of two little knobs, and all was well.  Thanks again for your quick replies and suggestions.  I guess our coach is as ready for a cold snap as it can be.  I may disconnect the batteries, but haven't made that move as yet.  Thanks again.
