Water Bay Manifolds replaced
« on: December 05, 2013, 03:45:11 AM »
My new to me 98 Patriot has had water leaking into my water bay for nearly a month now. I bought it in El Cajon Ca and instead of staying there while they tried to find parts and spending alot of money on motels I opted to come home since I live in Oregon and near Guaranty rv and Beaver sales and service. I finally found 10 3 way valves from Beaver sales and service in Bend and a new water inlet valve. Today I tackled the new manifolds and water fill valve. the water fill valve was easy and stopped 1/3 of my leaks. I had 3 or 4 3 way valves that the previous owner tried to repair cracks below where the knobs attach. He tried to repair with JB weld. I decided since it was time consuming and a pain in the rear to take the panel out and back in I would rather do it once so I have it opened up and replaced all 10 valves this morning. 5 hot and 5 cold. I turned the valves all to the center position after hooking them all to each other and the pex tubing going to the sinks, shower and toilet. Fortunately I have no leaks. My problem is I have water cold and hot in the kitchen and no water hot or cold in the bathroom sink or shower. The toilet works fine. All the valves are set the same way. What am I doing wrong?(center position)

Gary,

If your panel is like mine these are shut off valves to turn off one location if it leaked and allow the rest to work. Try placing the valves in the full on position and see if that helps.

Edward when I picked the coach up the knobs were all off and bagged up. The mechanic did a water pressure test and found a couple of the valves were leaking so He took the one off the shower and replaced it with the dump valve at the bottom. I do not know which position is on. I think they only turned 1/4 turn but these new valves turn from center top 1/4 turn left and right. All the valves are now turned straight up (vertical)

Gary,

With all the work on your panel something may be plumbed wrong. Choose one valve, say hot kitchen sink. Try it fully clockwise then fully counter clockwise to determine the position for full on. Once you know that set each of them fully on one at a time, all except the manifold drain valves. Go in and test that positions faucet. See if they all match up with the labeling on the panel. You will find out if this piping is correct to the panel labeling. If that is correct all of the hots should work the same. Test each hot and cold faucet a good length of time given the piping distance. See what works per the panel labeling and what does not. There are only so many pipes and positions so they all must be on the manifold to have pressure. You may have the hot and cold manifold feed pipes reversed, for instance. The kitchen might work with that given you do not know which way the single lever is supposed to be set to get hot. By having all of them off and testing them one at a time you will know if the are plumbed right. The other thing to check is that your outside faucet valves are fully off. If those were on but you had say a sprayer as a second valve shut off the water may mix hot and cold and then feed back into the supply manifold. Once you know that the piping is all correct, each valve will be left in the fully on, I think counterclockwise position, or counterclockwise if that is on. Once the piping is right and the valve positions are right this should all work.  Hope this helps.

Ed I got it figured out this morning. I forgot the bottom ones have to be turned off or the 4th from the top on both manifolds which go to the washer and dryer will run down and out the drains. Everything is working so far and no more leaks I still have to fasten it back to the fiberglass board. That will be a challenge. OH I forgot I want to change the gaskets in the bathroom style faucet too. I will be able to still use the chrome knobs as the 3 way valves came with red plastic knobs. I am guessing but think it will take me about half a day to put it the rest of the way back together but I want to make sure it is no longer leaking before I do. There are over 20 screw in connections just in the 10 valves lots of places for leaks. I never want to do this again.

Glad you got it figured out. These things do take some time but when they are fixed right they usually last....you are almost there.
