Alladin Issue
« on: May 08, 2014, 03:47:48 PM »
On our last trip our invertor went out and also took out our convection oven, sat. receiver and fuses in dvd player and fridge. I thought that was all but not so sure now because our alladin doesn't seem to function entirely right. The clock portion doesn't keep time when you set it and also just keeps flickering. It also has erased some of the trips on it'own. The rest of the functions seem to be okay for which I am fortunate. Was wondering if I should try to reset it or try something else first. I'm not sure where the reset button is in my 03 contessa. Thanks

Since I've been Home the flickering with the clock has ended and the trips haven't been erased but when I set the clock it just stays at that time.

Owen, I can set the time on mine and it holds until I shut the engine down.  Then I have to reset.  All the trip info seems to stay in the memory.  I was wondering if it might have a separate battery somewhere to maintain the clock like a computer does.  Thanks let me know if you run across something.

There are Alladin "manuals" and troubleshooting information in our Coach Assist section, if you don't have instructions.

I'm not sure what's going on with the "flickering", except that such symptoms are often indicative of poor conductivity - a loose or corroded contact in a relevant module somewhere.  Such poor conductance may explain a loss of voltage long enough such that the clock function doesn't retain its data.

It's been awhile since we used our rig, so I don't recall whether it lost the date and time with power down or not, but I don't think so;  since I found the trip tracking feature a bit cumbersome and irrelevant if I didn't remember to set certain parameters each time, I only used it a couple of times.  I write everything down in a daily diary anyway.  So I don't remember much re. a clock I didn't use, although I don't think I ever reset day/time unless the master battery switch was shut off.

Theoretically if you hit the joystick once within 10 seconds of turning the ignition off, the Aladdin will stay powered up.  If for some reason the system loses the clock at any power-down, that should keep it from happening.  But it will also keep all Aladdin module sensors active, creating a parasitic drain if you aren't plugged in to park power;  how much of a drain that is I don't know, but it may be something to consider.  Others here that are full-timers or regular travellers should know precisely whether the day/time function is lost at power down;  I just would think it is like a car radio with a separate power lead for the clock.  It may be that specific lead that is not properly conducting, and once located it may be a simple fix.  Unfortunately my Aladdin diagrams don't indicate where such a clock power lead might be;  the clock and its power may even be in the monitor.

My Reset switch is with many other coach systems features in the cabinet over the passenger seat.  But I've read that many prior coaches have their Reset switch in the driver's side cabinet, and some are behind a panel in there.  Others here can probably help zero you in on it for a 2003 Contessa.
