2007 Contessa entry door handle
« on: January 05, 2015, 04:59:25 AM »
My entry door handle is very slowly but surely not opening quite as well as when it was new. When I pull the latch the door doesn't open till right at the end of the handle travel distance. Im now to the point when I must stand off to the left to be able to pull it and open the door. Im very concerned that I will come home one day and it won't open at all. I lubed it up good and it is a little better. I just feel it should unlatch almost as soon as the handle moves.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, any solutions?

Thanks, Ken Sair

Ken,
We have the same problem. I posted about the door handle last month and I intended to have it repaired at LazyDays in Florida. But when we got into Florida the door was opening very well, not hanging up and we just figured it was the cold weather in Indiana that made our door stubborn to open. So when we had a few little things repaired at Tampa we didn't mention the door because it worked great. Now we are in Punta Gorda parked and the darn door won't hardly open again. My wife can't open it at all and I am certain I am going to break the handle at any time due to the force needed to open it now.
Im kinda lost as to what to do. I have taken the door panel apart and it appears that the linkage is the problem but I can't figure out how to fix.

Important: Leave a window unlocked which you can use to gain entry in the event the door will not open.

The thread mentioned from last month is this one:   http://beaveramb.org/forum/index.php/topic,4069.15.html

Has any one with this problem ever attempted to contact Monaco about the issue???
I have the problem, but have not given thought to contacting Monaco, lack of faith in them I guess, but they did build the coach and I can't believe that some Monaco coaches don't have the same problem.

We have the same problem on our '06 Monterey. I try not to slam the door or else we're stuck!

The two posts on the wall that your door latches into tend to move over time. This causes the door latches to lock up.  Moving these posts will ease the pressure it takes to open them.  I had to do it by trial and error to make sure the door firmly closed and latched without air coming in while driving, but finally got them adjusted so that the door unlatched easily and no air came into the coach while driving.

How do you move the posts on the door jamb. I need to move them all the way off if possible cause my door handle broke off today.I cant see a way to adjust or move them.
