What's In The Box?
« on: August 18, 2016, 07:57:43 PM »
I will be installing a computer work station behind the passenger seat and would like to anchor it significantly. What you should see in the pix --if it uploads-- is a box behind the heat duct cabinet which is located right behind the front passenger seat. It appears to be made from plywood covered with carpet, but is not removable as far as I can ascertain. Is there anything inside?  Would it be better to drill through the floor and anchor the desk with through bolts from the bottom? (This would be outboard of any of the center-line mounted tanks) Thoughts, ideas, techniques welcomed.

D,
I suspect the box may cover the antifreeze hoses running to the heater. Access screws are probably covered by carpet. I'd tie the new piece to both floor and wall.

D,

Beaver usually had a lot of screws anchoring cabinets. If you are building up to that existing cabinet I would be looking to find a way to anchor to it. If I was removing it I would anchor the desk the way that the original cabinet was anchored to the wall in approximately the same locations. They usually had a 3/4 by 3/4 strip screwed to the wall inside a cabinet that could remain to use as a mount. If that is a wood panel on the floor you could also build in a board in the desk design and put several screws through it into the floor near the desk corners. It really is overkill to through bolt if you can anchor well to the wall using the existing cabinets or the wall itself in my opinion.
