Weird AC (power) routing,
« on: April 09, 2017, 10:54:23 PM »
I may be new at this RV thing but I'm learning fast. And expensively.

My 97 Monterey, 30', Cat pusher has some strange wiring. AC POWER that is. Home Depot took all my money this morning for all the new fangled testers and a couple of connectors this morning.

On the AC side of things I have only 3 outlets that work. One above the dinette. One in the bath vanity. And one over the counter, under the wall cabinet. Ironically, the one under the cabinet is within 5 feet of a GFI on the other side of the sink and is the end of that run. The GFI is DEAD. Nothing going in OR out. I don't know WHAT the fridge is running off of. The propane tank is empty and shut off and the AC outlet it plugs into is dead. I have checked the AC breaker panel above the bed and everything checks good, in and out.

All the DC systems seem to be working OK. The monitor panel says the batteries are being charged.

What I really need is a wiring diagram of my 1997, Beaver, Monterey,30 ' MH. I've been able to find diagrams for other years and models but none have helped. I've opened panels searching for wire runs to chase. No luck.

HELLLLLPPPP!!! Please!

Not sure that this is true in your RV but many Beavers had a GFI outlet in the storage bay that fed many of the house outlets and also a sesperate small breaker box that was fed from the inverter. If your charger inverter is in the storage bay then look there. If it is elsewhere look at the AC output side of the inverter for a small breaker box and maybe a GFCI near there that could feed the house outlets.

I may be able to help. I have the same year model. Are you currently plugged into external AC power? If so check for breaker tripped on inverter. It is in the basement in the curbside entry, I do not have the drawings but this sounds like a problem I have had.

Bill,
You problem usually has a simple fix. First determine if you are loosing only the inverter feed circuits since only about half of your 120 volt circuits are inverter feed. So if you are running on the inverter your condition is normal, but since you said the batteries are being charged, you must be on shore power and if so you probably have a tripped inverter breaker or a bad inverter pass through relay. If you need help in checking out the system, just call me at 713-254-4156. I am in the Pacific Time Zone now.

Bill:

As Ed Advised, it may be the GFI breaker in one of the bays.  I experienced the same issue, AC circuits one one side of the coach did not have power, the other side did.  My GFI plug located in the rear bay was tripped.  I did not know this GFI feed the interior plugs, reset took care of my problem.

All the breakers on the front of the inverter seem to be working. Is there any test for these breakers?

These are the only diagrams I can find. Not the same year or model but gives me some insight into the general scheme of motor home wiring.

Thanks for your help.

Bill,
Check the voltage on the 120 volt circuit going into the inverter and the voltage on the 120 volt circuit that exits the inverter. If you have 120 volts going into the inverter but no voltage on the output circuit, you either have a bad breaker or a bad pass through relay in the inverter, and you need to repair or replace the inverter. If there is no 120 voltage on the input circuit, you have a bad inverter breaker in the main shore power breaker box or a loose connection.

A few questions, did you reset all breakers in question here? Sometimes a breaker looks normal even though it has tripped and needs to be reset. Also, do you have 120 volt power on the circuits in question if you unplug from shore power and turn on the inverter?
