FIRE SUPPRESSANT SYSTEM

Good morning. Has anyone had a Fire suppressant (foam) system installed in their motor homes engine compartment, refer compartment, and or generator area? I have purchased this system for my motorhome engine compartment from Mac the Fire Guy, who by the way is retiring after this year. I would like to know where in these compartments was this system installed. Thank you all for your input.

Basically you have to install them so that the head can spray the foam unobstructed across the compartment that they are installed in. In some cases you have to make sure which way the head needs to be mounted to work properly.
We have had and are again installing another one in our new Entegra engine bay. One in our engine bay for the 2004 Marquis was head in engine compartment with tank in closet by using and extended hose to do this that we got from MAC. In Lp Gas refrig and battery compartment or gen compartment just have to find an area based on your coach compartments that foam spray can cover the most area unobstructed as possible.

I installed a fire suppression system from mac in the bay that contains the transfer switch and inverter just inside and above the bay door and the lower fridge compartment just inside the lower exterior access panel. I have not done the engine compartment.

THANK YOU BOTH FOR YOUR RESPONSE. I appreciate it. The one best thing I have taken away from all the information  I have read and talked to MAC about is that as we become seniors it is unlikely we can get out the windows and MUST GO FOR THE DOOR. Therefore we need time, which these suppressant systems are important. Aso having hand bottles of foam throughout the rig to give us TIME....TO GET OUT.....

Make sure you let your insurance company know of install and you may save a few bucks.

I had some problems with the engine bay fire system from Mac so I would not trust the system he sells.

Mine was consistently loosing its' charge. 5 times is pretty excessive over 3 years. The last time it was inspected, serviced and charged by Mac's assistant and it still didn't hold a charge.

BUT, the bigger problem was actually getting it recharged. I had 2 shops refuse to service and charge the bottle because it had a Halon gauge, which was not correct for the content. They both just handed it back to me. One of the shops that charged it, would only do it with air pressure and would not tag the extinguisher, with their name as being serviced. The didn't even charge me as they didn't want their name attached to the extinguisher with a receipt (probably had an experience with a lawyer at some point)

One shop actually inspected the unit and suggested I return to the company I purchased it from, as it didn't have the proper valve and labeling.

Note that the shops that wouldn't service the unit were in California and Oregon so it wasn't a "local" issue.

I do however think Mac's liquid fir suppression system is the way to go and I do carry his small units in the motorhome and the car.

Man O Man...I know better then to purchase something that I do not first test with the people on this blog....after $500.00 and $100.00 for shipping...eek. So what type of fire suppressant should I get? I am eagerly waiting for a response since next tuesday is when I am suppose to have it installed. THANK YOU ALL!

I installed Mac''s fire suppression system 5 years ago in our engine and refrigerator and have had no problems and no need need to recharge.fyi
