No water pressure when not on city water
« on: September 09, 2017, 02:09:26 AM »
Hello all.....again(it's starting to sound like a broken record). OK, I filled up my fresh water tank(the overflow works-lol). And I put the pump to run, and I hear it running, but I get no water pressure. The only time I get good pressure is when I'm on the city water hook-up. When I turn the valve to fill my tanks, I get no pressure. I thought the manual said it was an on demand pump or something...IDK. Do I have to let it pressure up for awhile?? Any help would be Greatly appreciated....again.

Thomas,
Suggest you check the in-line filter(s) before and possibly after the pump. The one prior to the filter should be a screen type.

Thomas,
When the fill valve is open to fill your tank, you never get water pressure because all of the pressure is going into the tank. If the fill valve is closed, and you get no pressure with the pump on if you open a facet long enough for the pump to prime (15 to 30 seconds), a restricted filter, a malfunctioning fill vale (only with automatic fill valves), or a malfunctioning pump. What model water pump do you have?

When I turn the valve to fill my tanks, I get no pressure.

On our coach when the fresh water tank fill valve is open, then we get very little to no water pressure in the living quarters of the coach... and this is so when either on shore water or on the pump.  The fresh water tank fill valve must be closed in order for the water to be pushed to the higher level of the living quarters versus the lower level where the fresh water tank is located.

IDK what model water pump it is. I was reading the 93 manual again, and it said there is a pump behind a removable panel. That must be the one that I had to remove to replace the filters. There was one other thing in there. It was small and had a glass bowl. It MAY have been the pump-IDK. But it also said it was 12v. So I may have to check for a blown fuse or something.

I find we sometimes get air in the lines when traveling, or sitting an extended period of time and very low pump pressure. I go outside and turn on the pump and let the water flow through the bay faucet and it seems to relieve air voids that may have accumulated through the lines; this restores pressure to the upper faucets. Turning on the upper faucets doesn't seem to have the same effect. Not sure why this is, but the bay area is lower than the rest of the coach and it may help prime the pump or overcome voids elsewhere in the system. As long as it works, I'm in.

Stop kicking yourself.  The learning curve on these coaches is so steep that you can forget that you learned something and go over it again.  Been there done that.  No one minds helping.
Now on the passanger side of your Patriot.  Move two bay doors ahead of the rear tires and open it.  Just inside and on the left shoild be a carpet covered box.  Look closely and the front of the box should be covered seperately from the rest so the front pops off.  Give it a good tug on the ends.  Inside you should find a water shut off for the ice maker, some plastic water lines, a small bowl filter with a screen inside and the water pump.  If that screen bowl is plugged it can prevent priming the pump.  Unscrew the bowl and wash and reinstall.  If the pump runs then it is not a fuse.  Be sure that the water tank fill valve is in the off position and there is water in the tank.
Try all this and report back.  This will help to eliminate possible problems.

Keith, thanks alot. Yeah I DO kick myself alot. Guess it's my OCD that always seems to "kick"in-lol. Anyway, all my stuff that says on passenger side is on drivers side....battery's, water connections, etc. I just came out of my coach this morning(about 5min ago), and now I have water pressure. It's not near what it is when connected to city water, but it IS working. But, according to my manual this thing is supposed to have an "on demand"pump that automatically turns on/off whenever a faucet is opened/closed....NOT. But, yeah, it does take a minute or so for it to pressure up. And even then as the water is flowing you can see a slight pulse in the water flow. I guess that's normal....IDK. Maybe I could see about a slightly bigger pump??....Anyway, I guess it's all good. Thanks alot for all the help/input. I swear, sometimes I feel like I'm on an island trying to learn this thing. What WAS I thinking...lol

OK, and I just pulled the screen filter. It was clean. Had a little sediment in there, but not much. Gave it a good cleaning anyway with warm water-reinstalled. Pump is working-no leaks. And this pump is rated for 45 psi/3.1 bar(same thing). Guess I don't want to go any bigger than that. I keep hearing to not let the water pressure get too much over 40 psi. I even bought one of those brass regulators and installed it on my water connection. OK, now off to find a good hot 12v wire to plug in my recliners. Yes, the wife HAD to have recliners with heat/massage. I said you mean you don't want power recline?? She just looked at me and said don't get ridiculous! ME?? You're the one that just HAS to have plug in recliners.....Geez

Thomas,
You can run water pressure up to 65 PSI without a problem. I use a Aqua Jet variable speed pump that runs 5.5 GPM at 65 PSI, but it is a pricey pump. Some owners really like the Shurflo Revolution pump that is rated for 3 GPM at 55 PSI, and at $75 it is less than half the price of the pump I use. The GPM (gallons per minute) difference between the two pumps only matters when you have multiple facets open at once.

Thomas,, Don't push your luck or you'll be down at the store getting a recliner you have to use 120V on with all the bells and whistles.

No. these are 12v. I verified that with the manufacturer. They have a 10A auto type fuse on them(red). They said I can use one that goes up to maybe 30A or so. But to not go directly from the battery. The heat uses 8 amps and the massage uses 2. Or something like that.

OK guys....After further review, I think I may need to replace my pump. It runs and all, but never shuts off. I think it's supposed to shut off automatically when it reach's it's set pressure. Plus the pressure is not that great. It says it was built in 9-06. It's a sureflo. It that a decent pump, or do I need to look at other brands? The model# is 2088-422-444. I can still get that one. Was just wondering.

I once had the same problem that you do.  It's documented on this forum.  After I looked for days, knowing that my fresh water tank was full because every time i put water in it it overflowed.  After I replaced the pump I found that the fresh water dump valve had stuck in the open position so all the water drained as soon as I put it in.  Closed valve, sprayed liberally with lubricant, and problem solved!  Bright side I now have a new high capacity sureflo water pump and great pressure!  Good luck.
