Roof Coating

Hey guys, I was gonna re-coat the top of my Patriot. I got up there and cleaned/scrubbed it real good. Cleaned the A/C's and all. Now, I was just going to do this because I just figured it needed to be done. Mainly because I don't trust anything the seller told me! Anyway, after I scrubbed and cleaned it up real good....it's not cracked or anything. It actually looks pretty good. I think I'll replace the refrigerator vent cover tho, just cause it's not white anymore. It's more of a yellow color from all the sun. So, I guess the question is how do I determine if/when the roof needs to be re-coated?? Thanks for any and all help.

In our case I know the roof needs a new coat of paint because every rain leaves white lines down the sides of the coach.  In the Fall and Spring the morning dew running off the roof will leave white lines.  I may try to get this done while in Yuma this Winter.

The white lines I believe are from the chalk left after paint decomposes from too much time in the direct sun.  There are many threads here in the Forum discussing this subject.  If you do a search, then you will have a hour or more of reading.

Thomas,
Consider doing roof now. Regardless of how it looks, it will continue to deteriorate with time if it has the original gel coat on it. A number of members have used Rustoleum Deck Coating with very good results. Here is a link to the Roof Coating write-up FYI.

Steve - that's what I bought. Gerald actually has had good results with that. I bought 4 quarts. I've been told that should be enough for two coats. We just may get some spotty rain for the next few days. So I MAY hold off. Maybe I could put one coat on today, then wait for the second coat...IDK

Thomas, I just finished this project and very glad I did.  If you have it all cleaned up now I the time the hard part is done.  Painting is easy.  You will be glad you did.  I know I am!  No more streaks down the sides.

Excellent instructions here on the forum.  3 1/2 qts. for 2 coats on mine of the Rustoleum Deck Paint.
