Generator running hot

I have an 06 Beaver Marquis. Have been using gen overtime for past two weeks due tgo hurricane Irma. We are flooded out of our home and have been living in RV.  Have been running gen a lot. Last night about 11:30 gen quit. Went out and I could tell it was hotter than normal.  Full of oil and antifreeze. Started it again about 8 am and it ran for 30 mins and shut down anyone have any ideas would be appreciated.  The fan is working. Thanks to all

Bobby, sounds like a worn or loose fan belt. Suggest you check your gen manual to access trouble shooting codes which you can read on the stop start switch on the generator. Good luck

My Onan 10k was overheating on my 02 Marquis and turned out to be a number of issues.  One of my issues was a surprise to me but my Generator tech says it occurs often.  The noise suppressing insulation in the air outflow area had deteriorated and most of it had come loose blocking the air outflow.  You might check for this as I'm told this is not an unusual occurrence. 

Other issues could be the fan belt, radiator plugging with calcium build up, and thermostat.  Good luck!

My generator experience is documented here.  In my case, the coolant temperature sensor was not reporting so the generator's brain shut it down.

Bobby,
The generator fan belt can get worn or loose and slip. When this happens, the fan will still be operating but at a reduced speed with lower air volume which causes an overheating condition. Most Onan 10K units need the fan belt replaced every 1,000 hours, but I have seen units that need to have the belt replaced at as little as 300 hours.
