Slide Creeping In
« on: February 05, 2018, 01:59:37 AM »
Well, I woke up this morning to the passenger side, living room slide in about half way after being parked for 6 weeks. Tried running it back out but no movement. Pump runs but the slide doesn’t move. Decided to try running it all the way in. It did come in and stay in place. Then tried again to move it back out, no movement. So, it is now staying in the fully closed position. The other 3 slides are working normally. Any thoughts on my problem are appreciated. Also I tried checking the hydraulic fluid level with all the slides in to no avail. That tank is a real pain to get to. Also checked for any leaks and found no evidence. We live full time in it and I’ve never had this problem before.
Thank you,
Larry Fisk

it sounds like the hydraulic solenoid is not closing/seating fully or is leaking internally.

You may need to replace the solenoid. It is located near the front step under the coach. You could try opening the bypass running the motor for a second to flush it.

If the fluid level is good (did you check it or "try" to check it?), and you can hear the pump running, and the other slide-outs work (that which would suggest your pump is building pressure, that only leaves the solenoids.

Larry,
From what you are saying I would say it is a solenoid problem with that slice, each slide has two solenoids one extend and one retract, kind of sounds like your extend solenoid may not be opening or the retract solenoid not closing.
I always call Stuart's Service with HWH slide or leveling problems, always get a tech on the phone and they are a HWH service center and can get parts fast. 800-826-6267

Thank you for all the responses. I took the Thunder to Mark Townsend RV Repair in San Jacinto, CA. Mark crawled up in to the area where the slide HWH system is, in front of the front step. I then heard him ask me, “Do you have cats?” I responded, No, we don’t but the place we had been staying has several. He went on to say a cat had gotten up into the area where the solenoid valves are and tripped a bleed on one of the valves. He had reset it and asked me to try the problem slide again. The slide worked perfectly!!. He then showed me the valve and how to reset it if it ever happens again. I thought he was kidding when he asked me if we had a cat. I’ll try to post a pic of the valve. The bleed was on the end of the valve. It was about a 1”, aluminum plate that sticks straight out from the valve. If a critter hits that plate it can trip the pressure off of that valve. The whole fix took less than 5 minuites. I learn something new every day. I apologize for being late in responding. I hope this helps in case anyone else has a slide travel problem. The fix could be as easy as this.
Thank You and Safe Travels my friends,
Larry Fisk
