The 30 Amp Service Cord Question

Good Morning Folks,

I am new to the Beaver Group having just purchased a 1993 Beaver Contessa after recently loosing my Wife of almost 54 years and last week, my Mother who was 93.  I have a question on the 30 amp service plug wiring.  
Is this 30 amp plug wired for 220 volts[face=Verdana][/face],  ie: 110 on each of the flat plug blades and the round blade as common?  A good explaination of this plug wiring would be really appreciated by me.

I am about ready to hit the road but unable to be at Moultrie as my 93 year old Mother's Memorial Services were yesterday afternoon.  Hope to meet many of you in the next few months.

Sorry to hear about your losses. Hope the coach brings some joy to your life....

Regarding the 30 amp plug. It is wired so that it is just 120V. There is a standard hot, ground, and neutral wire involved. It is wired just like any 120V outlet, just heavier 10 gauge wire and the plug are configured to handle the extra current.

Like Ed stated, on a 30 amp RV plug the one flat blade is 30 amp hot where the other one is neutral and the round terminal is a ground. However on the 50 amp plug that your coach is wired with the two side flat blades are each 50 amp hot and the center flat blade is neutral with the round terminal being the ground. So you get 100 amps of useable current when on 50 amps but if you use a 50 to 30 amp adapter the two side blades on your 50 amp cord are both tied to the single hot terminal on the 30 amp plug and therefore you get 30 amps to be shared between all circuits.

We're sorry that you've lost, so close together, people you've held dear for so many years, James.  We should all be so fortunate, though, to have cherished ones in our lives for such a remarkable length of time.  We know you miss them, and no one can totally replace them in your life, but perhaps the new friends you'll meet in the BAC will help fill the void just a little.

I think you've already discovered that there at least 2 great technical minds here, embodied in Ed and Gerald, and they've taken the words out of my mouth in adeptly answering your question.  So it only leaves me to proffer words of welcome to the BAC.
