Potty closet latch, 2002 Contessa

My brass latch on the potty closet is worn and works poorly as well as both handles droop about an inch. Anyone know how to fix it or where to get a new one.

Gordon,

Do you mean the door knob/handle? If so, any standard from the big box stores or your local Ace Hardware will have a replacement.

It is a handle on the outside but inside it is a handle on a 3" x 4" brass box that contains the mechanism, latch, and spring. It just seems to be worn out and barely works plus the handles droop down about an inch from level due to the wear.

Gordon, our 1998 Contessa had a simple painted handle that was broken internally.  Since the door is actually the thickness of a cabinet door regular pass door hardware did not work for us.  We found a screen door external latch in brass at HD that we were able to adapt.  The holes in the door did not align but were covered by the new hardware.  Perhaps it would be a replacement for yours.

You could try Nicholson Hardware in Rockford IL. It is a 100 year old company that purchased much of the stock of Amerock when they closed. They have ancient stuff. I bet if you called them, or sent them pictures and dims, they will have it. They have two buildings next to the store that houses old stuff. They were able to find the mechanism for a 55 year old lazy-susan cabinet for me once. The guy said "I think those are in building 3". He was gone about 40 minutes and came back with a box that had 4 of them.

I had to replace mine. It ultimately came from http://www.meritmetal.com/ but I got it through MIKE PREMUS at Beaver Coach Sales 541.322.2184 They were able to get the exact complete assembly for me.

This is a great source for reasonable priced hard to find hardware. They have the Beaver style cabinet door spring latches I needed. $1.89 each in brass.

This is one that may work from the hardware hut. It's a brass screen door latch with interior lock.
