2008 Contessa Leveling
« on: July 08, 2014, 11:35:19 PM »
Quick question regarding the leveling procedures on a 2008 Contessa.

Friends of ours just took possession of said coach and have not yet joined the forum so I'm asking this question on their behalf.

They would like the coach to set a bit lower, is it possible to dump air first and than level as opposed to leveling from ride height...Would this accomplish the objective??

Thanks.

Dick

On our 2008 Contessa we would auto level, and then lower all four corners to desired height.  Don't know for sure if this is correct, but it worked and we could lower to the height we wanted.

Dick,
You did not say what leveling system they have, but assuming that it is air leveling, the answer to your question is yes, but if the coach is very unlevel, it will take a lot longer to level the coach and add a lot more wear to the electric air compressor for the leveling system. So the answer might be better stated as "usually it is OK".

Another "fix" when level is too high.

Thanks for the input, I'll pass the info along...in fact I'll just copy Linda on this thread.  Since BCS apparently provides the first year membership to BAC with a purchase I know they will be grateful for the tips.

I may still be a conduit for questions until their membership and forum access gets settled.....it's only been a day or two since they got it and just returned to Mallard Creek yesterday with the coach.

I went over this morning and passed on the thoughts but none seem to work.  It is a Power Gear system and no matter how low we drop it as soon as "Auto" is engaged it eventually raised back up to the original position.

Guess it's back to the Amazon recommendation.

I have a 2008 Contessa and IMHO.....forget messing with the auto leveling...go get a step and use when necessary.  That what I do.

If you have a choice of which direction to park on a non-level spot, then park with your front passenger side uphill.  That will place that corner of your coach lowest to the ground after leveling and the step will not be necessary.  As we all know, most RV parks have specific directional parking for access to hookups.  At places where your front passenger side is downhill, carry a step.

Like Leah, I carry an adjustable step with folding legs in case we end up where the step is particularly high.  But if their coach has air leveling as well as the Power Gear, they should be able to just use air leveling by itself to achieve their ends.  As an alternative to the porta-step, I often just put out the slides and then dump air, and then hit the air auto-level.  That leaves us level and the entry easy to step up to.

If they don't have HWH air leveling, I'm of no help there since we use nothing else.  The electric jacks on our old coach were a pain, and hydraulic ones have their share of issues too.
