Air Leveling HWH
« on: May 31, 2015, 01:52:09 AM »
Brought the coach in for service for stuff other than leveling.  Drove it in and travel mode worked great and I am very aware of the travel light because of another incident I won't go into now.  Anyway the service guy calls and say they can't get the coach to go into travel mode, bad control module, no problem extended warranty will cover it.  We left this morning for our longest trip yet, about two weeks.  First night the air leveling will not work.  when I push the button twice it flashes once and then stops.  No leveling.  The red lights lit saying its level, no yellow lights, coach is way off from being level.  The panel will not respond to air up or air down or anything else I can see.  It does look like it tries because the light does flash because it thinks its level (I think).  I have a home made Hydraulic system controller put in by the dealer when I bought it.  Been afraid to use it because I have nightmares about the jack to axle system failing with jacks down.  Anyway I used it and we are level for now.  Any ideas why it is acting like this?  The shop is closed of course.
Thanks in advance.

Jerry I suggest that you look at hwh on line.  Surely they have a q&a page for this.  If not, give them a call tomorrow.  It may be  just getting it to reboot or something.

Good luck

Just a guess, take the panel out ensure the plug is connected good.  Happened to me and others.  Just in case.

Jerry,
Try dumping some air, then turn off the system, turn back on and press air again to level. I had a similar problem and this procedure resolves it (plus it levels the coach at a lower point so the step to the ground isn't too high).

Thanks everyone.  I took cover off the large aluminum box in the electrical bay under drivers seat.  Pics attached hopefully.  I found 2 connecters inside not connected to anything.  one a small multi-pin like the one that attaches to the control panel inside.  No obvious place to attach it.  The other was round kind of looks like it might be a power connecter like a computer charger or something.  Do these control boards/boxes typically have unused connectors like a lot of generic electronics do?  Any new thoughts?  Not sure where the power is to the board to unhook it.  I will be doing some research but wife really wants to explore Hilton Head so we'll see.  Thanks again.

I definitely need practice on pics...sorry.
Oh and I forgot to mention that the 4 corner red lights that were on last night are now out.  Still no yellow lights.  The "on" still flashes 3 times when I try to activate leveling but nothing happens.  Dump or raise buttons still do nothing.
Thanks

Update, not sure why but the manual buttons now work as long as I don't push the air button twice.  Maybe thats supposed to be that way.  Anyway I can now level manually.  Following the troubleshooting on the HWH website, which isn't very clear in some cases, but good.  I'm leaning towards the sensing unit.  The 4 red lights come on indicating that the coach is level when it is not which is why the coach won't go into auto leveling, I think.  The air light flashes and it goes to sleep.  So...anyone know where the sensing unit is?  I've looked at past threads that indicate that it is in the upper part of the elec. bay.  Not there, just a nice clean roof of the bay.  Ideas?

Hi Jerry-

Don't know if you've already seen these in my past posts, but will include adjustment info I have.  Yours may be quite different than mine in control configuration, especially if your controller isn't on the electric bay ceiling, but perhaps they'll be of some help;  the sensors for mine I believe are inside that box.

Forgive the lack of clarity in some images - that's what HWH faxed a repairing dealership in 2006, so my copies weren't the best to start with, much less after scanning and reducing resolution so they'd fit within this site's parameters.  A call to HWH tomorrow might be a good idea if nothing else works;  who knows what your repair techs did to your system.

Thanks Joel, I found some of that on their website.  I just can't find where the sensor is on my coach.  I'll give BCS a call tomorrow and see if they know.  I'll update when I know something.

Jerry,
I think that your level sensor is located under the removable panel in the top of the dash in front of your steering wheel.

Thanks Gerald, Do you mean the plastic one with gauges on it?  Which may be another dumb question because I don't see any other removable panels!  Just making sure.

Jerry,
No, the panel that I am referring to would be in the top of the dash to allow access to the area behind the gauges.

That's where it's located in our coach - just under the removable dash panel on top of the dash in front of the steering wheel and just behind the front windshield.  Remove the access panel and it's the first thing you will see.  The access panel is held down by Velcro and it's not easy to lift.  Use a dull knife without a point and no sharp edges - like a butter knife - to pry it up.
