Results From Adding Cat Fuel Pump & Primary Filter on 06 - C9

After following tropic fuel system problem and the advice from Dave Atherton along a local Cat dealer I added a cat fuel pump, 206-5756, replacing racor primary fuel filter.
This has improve the starting with less smoke in cold weather, stable RPM, it runs at 750-755 steady, before it engine would flux from 735 to 780 for 5 to 15 minute, engine sounds quieter and smother.
On the road proformance has improved, acceleration to pass much more responsive and able to hold speed while climbing hills. My over all fuel mileage also has improve by .5 MPG even while towing a heavier car, GMC Acadia instead of a Saturn Vue.

I'm very happy with the improvement. I feel that the coach is performing the way should!
The total cost to do this was about $550 with me doing the work.

Thanks Dave!

Did you mean to say replaced racor filter with a CAT filter (versus a CAT Fuel Pump?).

thanks,
Mike

Mike, your C-12 does not need the update that the C-9 does due to its having a mechanical fuel pump. By adding the mechanical fuel pump to the C-9 it brings it into the performance standards as set by CAT.

The only update for your C-12 is to simplify things, keep the air out, make it run smoother, get the right CAT filters and have a better set up for your CAT as the CAT engine was engineered and tested by CAT. With the CAT designed system for the fuel/water separation Primary filter and the Secondary filter at 2 microns to make sure the fuel before it goes to the fuel rail under pressure is at a filtration level that protects your injectors.

If you want a certified CAT mechanics answers for your CAT diesel engine you should go to the TECHNICAL heading on the Forum header and then go to ASK DAVE. Here you will only get CAT information that meets the specific engineered CAT specifications from a registered CAT mechanic, that is also a Beaver Ambassador Club member.
