Mirror switch

My adjusting switch for the mirrors seems to be broken. It seems loose when I move it from side to side or front to back. Anyone have this problem before? I have a 1998 Patriot.

Hello, I know it's been years since you posted this but did you ever find a replacement controller/switch for the mirrors.  I have a 98' Patriot too.  The right side doesn't adjust anymore.  Switch or motor?  I starting with the switch.

Mike, I’m not sure how many model years that most of our coaches used Velvac products, but you might consult them for any helpful information:   https://www.velvac.com/where-buy/order-rv-mirrors  .

Try also the resource most familiar with Beaver models, the Beaver Coach Sales parts dept.:  https://www.beavercoachsales.com/parts-rvs-dealership--parts  .

But I’d first want to know of course what’s really haywire, as it could just be a corroded, high-resistance hot or ground connection in the mirror head.  Sometimes the movement within the unit stresses a misplaced wire, loosening, pinching, or breaking it;  in repairing mine for other issues I’ve noted wire stresses if the motor can overdo intended positioning parameters.  There also may be a fuse or breaker or a relay gone afoul between the head and the switch.  Those may be in your street side frontmost electrical bay.

If on the other hand, yes, if the switch seems loose or funky like Gary’s, I reckon I’d zero in on that first.  In any case a multimeter will prove useful.

Joel is right in that you should take a meter and properly diagnose your problem before you start throwing parts at it. You will soon learn that throwing parts at a problem is the most expensive and frustrating way to repair a coach. But, Joel was probably wrong about the manufacturer of your mirror, because most of the SMC era Beavers used Ramco mirrors.
