Air scoop
« on: June 13, 2014, 08:53:58 PM »
Ok guys, I have added a air scoop to,the air intake.  I tried it on a trip to Orlando and it increased my fuel mileage by about a half mile per gallon.

Now that I have mounted more securely I will post results after a trip this next week.

Just wondering...  is it also a rain scoop?  But I sure could use a mileage increase.  I average only 5 to 5.5 mpg.

The coach has a box to shed any water that may come in, in addition I raised the front off of the surface about a 1/8 of an inch to allow for pressure release and water release.

Hello I would be interested in that scoop as well could you give my details as to where I could get one also. Also if you noticed the intake the air directors are facing away from incoming air mine was like that and I changed it the other way around  so the air is trapped and forced in Thankyou. my email is mar02@hotmail.ca

The scoop in the photo looks to be running horizontal where  as  I believe the intake on your 05 (as it was on my 05) and my 07 goes vertical at the top of the DS rear. Michael, Because you have an additional air intake, maybe it does work for you at that spot, but I don't think it will on the stock intake position.

Guys,

Sorry had to find the receipt.  My intake cover appears to be installed backward as well, when I turn it around it does not fit properly.

Anyway the part number from Summit is SUM-470090 EURO HOOD SCOOP SMALL.

It did have to be cut and modified.  I used a metal blade on my sawsall for that modification and painted.

There seams to be some confusion here in air intake location. The intake modification that Tom posted (lower part of RR side) was on a 99 model SMC designed coach. A lot of the Monaco designed coaches used an air intake that was high on the LR corner There are many different air intake locations that are used on Beaver coaches over the years, and air intake modifications have had varying results from slight improvements to no improvements. It all comes down to the fact that there is no "one size fits all" magic cure for increased performance or economy.

Hello my understanding was as follows when the C13 first came out the owners had power problems and poor fuel milage so Monaco and Cat put a extra air intake system on the RR lower side of the coach along with the factory opening on the Top LS and connected both systems with a collector box feeding the air cleaner inlet to help with more air to feed the dual turbos set up on the C13. The air intake system were not a new idea just they used what they had to make a 2nd intake opening to improve preformance and fuel milage.Since this is my new to me Beaver the fomer owner said the added air intake made a world of difference.

George my pleasure, as before the scoop did give me about 1/2 MPG better than without.

Maybe better will have to check on the way back.
